Orchards is always in need of volunteers to help us in our mission.  The following opportunities are available:

Adopt-a-Family - This program began in 2007 to provide some of Orchards' most challenged families with items such as clothing, coats, school supplies, furniture, household items, food baskets and holiday gifts.  View our Brochure

Baseball - We are in need of coaches for the season and volunteers for the Opening and Closing ceremonies.  The season begins with practice in April, games beginning in late May, Opening Day in June and the Closing ceremony in August.

Backpack Day - Children will be supplied with backpacks and school supplies.  Volunteers are needed to serve as supply drive hosts and to assist in stuffing backpacks and distributing them to the children.

Clothing Corner - This room is located in the lower level of our Southfield Office.  We are in need of new or gently used clothing for children.  Most of the times our children come in with only the clothes on their back.  Although they receive a clothing allowance, it is not immediately available.  Items most needed are underwear (all ages), jeans (all sizes), shoes (boots, school, dress, gym), sweaters and uniforms.  Volunteers are needed to donate, organize clothing drives, keep room seasonal and solicit items on a year-round basis.

Holiday Party - A committee/volunteers are needed to secure a location, create activities, arts and crafts and solicit donations for food and supplies.  Volunteers will also be needed at the actual party (conduct activities, serve as chaperones, set-up and clean-up).

Intake - Intake is always in need of baby formula, diapers and blankets.  We need volunteers to organize the intake room, keep inventory and assemble "baby bundles".

Turkey Baskets - A committee/volunteers are needed to solicit, collect and organize the distribution of complete food baskets to our families.  This will happen at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Toy Drive - A committee is needed to solicit, organize, coordinate pick-ups, handle thank you letters and keep track of incoming donations and distribute them.

Tutoring - Volunteers are needed for all sites to assist children of all ages with homework, usually between the hours of 3p-6p on weekdays.

Toy Room - Regular volunteers are needed to solicit items for the toy room and to keep it organized.  This room is used throughout the year as a reward room for the children (report cards, reaching goals, etc.).  The room is in need of a constant supply of items that appeal to older children and those under two.

This list is updated on a monthly basis, due to various opportunities that are presented to Orchards.
