Many families face challenges as part of their adoptive journey. Youth in the foster care system experience trauma and have a hard time expressing themselves. Sometimes, this looks like behavioral difficulties at home and/or school. These behaviors can cause foster and/or pre-adoptive parents to question whether they have the skills necessary to meet the needs of the children in their home. At Orchards, our dedicated team of professionals provide the support foster, and pre-adoptive parents need to ensure they and the children they care for are successful.
“Penny”, a pre-adoptive mom working with an Orchards Adoption Resource Consultant, had this exact experience. The team took the time to actively listen to her concerns and work collaboratively to identify meaningful supports for both the youth and the family. Their efforts included helping the youth gain acceptance into an alternative school, exploring Community Living Supports (CLS) and respite opportunities, and connecting the family with Post Adoption Resource Centers to ensure continued support after their adoption. Through the dedication and support of the team, the adoption was successfully finalized on May 18.
By creating a supportive environment rooted in trust, understanding, compassionate guidance, practical resources, ongoing encouragement, and trauma-informed care, the family felt better equipped to navigate difficult moments while continuing to build a strong and lasting connection. Thanks to the level of support, advocacy, and active listening by the experts at Orchards, this family reached a positive and successful outcome.
